i want to buy one of these cards below :
1-alfa awus036h(RTL8187L)
2-wifisky 2000mw(RTL8187L)
3-signalking 36000n(Ralink 3070)

What you guys think ? have you tried wifisky 2000 or signalking 36k?

I live in Orlando Florida. I cannot find any of the brands listed in top 5 locally. Tried a D-link dwa 131 and Xiaopan doesnt recognize it. It is Rtl8191su. I was hoping it would be close enough to a Rtl8192su which has been listed as working with Xia. Anyone know of any other brands that work? I can fin D-link, linksys,Belkin, and Cisco. Any input would be much appreciated.

Good to see some one using a proper card imho ubiquiti card beat the alfas hands down.
One of my old fav's is Senao nl-2511cd plus ext2 had it for years still going strong.

i used a 20mmx20mmx2mm copper shim held with some thermal tape but mostly AS5. Then AS5 thermal compound with a lapped heatsink I cut to fit.

 

The V5 RTL8187L 036H Alfa's don't get as "hot". Well not as hot as the earlier Alfa 036H versions do anyway...

I think it's supposed to run "hot" or at least relatively warm, it is a 2005 era chip after all.

You should experience my 4870x2's, 283 watts power draw, and 90 degrees idle temps, but they both still work since 2008.

Wouldn't it be easier to just leave to top shell off and have a small desk fan blowing at the components
without having to resort to decimating the adapter and having to hack holes in the shell ?!?

 

I don't want to have a fan on it all the time wasting electricity and I do move it around depending on what network I want to use. Opening it up isn't hard and I had a spare shell, heat sinks, AS5 and tape just sitting around so it just made sense. Once it's done it's done. Now I have a unique looking Kasens masquerading as an Alfa that's already lasted longer than my NHR .
