When I attempt to run the ralink utility in mountain lion it just bounces in the task bar and never actually runs. End up having to kill it. Any ideas? Thanks, Glenn
There are no console errors. The program loads, bounces for a while and eventually stops. If I click it nothing happens and have to end up killing it. Not sure what its actual name is or I'd try to run it from the command line and see what shows up there. Will keep looking for errors. Thanks for reply, Glenn.
Just to confirm, did you have the old driver already installed and did you install the new over the old one? You may need to use AppZapper to delete all the files associated with your old install. Also, you could try loading the kernel in 32bit instead of 64bit. in Terminal (Persistent) Code: Select All sudo systemsetup -setkernelbootarchitecture i386 or on Boot (On Demand) Hold the 3 and 2 keys during startup. Your Mac will revert to the default kernel the next time you reboot it.
So do I need to run 32bit mode to run the latest drivers? I thought they were modified to support mountain lion. If they have to be run as 32bit then I would guess that has been the problem all along. Thanks, Glenn
I am not sure and I thought they did. I am just trying to figure out what is going on blind. As far as I know, it is quite difficult to make 64-bit drivers and it is something that needs to be built basically from scratch. I used to have a NH but I gave it away so I can't test the new utility. If anyone has had success or issues we would love to hear it. It's a little funny with over 1,000 views only one other person is commenting.

I'm using these drivers in lion 64bit haven't got round to installing mountain lion yet but they are 64bit, only had the bouncing icon a couple of times just kill the wireless utility unplug then replug card. The only issue so far is it slows my shutdown some problem with diskarbitrationd

does the alfa awusnh36 work on ML ? i got a macbook pro 13" 2011 , im on ml should i get down to lion ? or whats better ?
Salahkun I can personally confirm that the AWUS036NH and other RT3070 devices work well with Mountain Lion 10.8, 10.8.1 and 10.8.2. I have a mid 2010 model MBP 13" and it works very well, so your system should work well as well. However, I do have 8GB of RAM and a hybrid SSD. It is up to personal preference. So I Just got a macbook running MointainLion, and the driver above works. Thanks for that! But.. I have never had a problem with with the card being recognized in a virtual machine, but now that im in OSX its a different story... So backtrack 5 r3 recognizes the card and i can put it into monitor mode "Supposedly". But i dont think its ACTUALLY working because when i try to connect it to internet it doesn't find any networks.. Hmm Any Ideas?
karni64 slightly off-topic but I will respond. What virtualisation software are you using? When a card is in monitor mode: Code: Select All airmon-ng start wlan0 You should get something like this: Code: Select All (monitor mode enabled on mon0) To check to see if your card is running in monitor mode run the following command: Code: Select All iwconfig You will not be able to connect to networks using WICD Network Manager. You will need to get your card out of monitor mode: Code: Select All airmon-ng stop mon0
Yes Its running in mon0 while in monitor mode. Ive killed off all the processes that could possibly be giving it problems however it still does not want to pick up any AP's when I run airodump (Ive also reinstalled BT5 in virtualbox [which i know works] and its the same thing) . I'm beginning to think that it may be the card itself =/ Ill check it on a windows box when i get access to one. BTW Sorry for the off topic bit.
I installed the package that Mr. Penguin posted on friday and rebooted. I have a "Ralink" Icon in my statusbar at the top of the screen and when I click on it it has two options.. "Turn on internet sharing" and "Open Wireless Utility.." Click on either of them does nothing. I located the wirelessutility.app and clicked on it. It didn't do anything either. Tried launching as root. All that it did was open duplicate icons in the statusbar. I don't know what to do ... Im running OSX 10.8.2 on a mid 2010 pro
chazwitt, you need to plug the device in before you click on one of these. You also might have to add a network connection in the network pref pane.
