I also noticed spectrum updated these routers to a new version...They are the same hardware, but the have a different ssid, like SpectrumSetup-XX (and it's the same for both bands). And the model number changed from RAC2V1K to SAC2V1K. Password structure looks about the same. (word+word+3dig) Check out the pic below (found it on ebay)[IMG]

Interesting. Loyal is a straight adjective.

I've also popped several of those spectrum-setup routers with the regular adj_noun format.

Makes sense. I think they did the update to all three models, Sagemcom, Askey, and Arris

Yeah, I double checked the mac address to see the manufacturer and confirmed it's an askey. I guess askeys just use a wordbank that has a mixture of adj+nouns+verbs?

I found another example of the "upgraded" mopdel Spectrum router, this time it's a Sagemcom. Password looks like the same structure as usual sagemcoms. I also found another askey password, rewardbasket091. [IMG]

What makes you think it follows the netgear format?

I searched a little to find examples of Arris routers and it depends on which model and/or ISP you're dealing with...Not sure if it's this one but it may be a 12 digit number password. My GPU does 400K hashes/sec and it would take 29 days to exhaust it. Maybe less if you eliminate anything that has more than 2 repeating numbers, but it would still need a beast to get through quickly

    I also remeber
Gotcha. Yeah, Arris makes many different routers for ISPs and they all have different password algorithms. I remember one of the first passwords I cracked was an Arris and it's password was the same as the network name +4 chars. So it was super easy. Then I encountered one that was 16 chars long, and could be anything, letters, upper, lower, symbols, etc, which would take centuries to crack and most users change them to something else because they get sick of typing that long, complex password into a tiny phone screen. The best thing to do is find examples of Arris routers with the same SSID as your capture on places like ebay so you can see examples of what the password looks like. That way know if you need a word dictionary or if it's a random number/letter mask attack.

I couldn't get the NETGEAR52-Guest network to crack using the lists, could be because the owner set their own password seeing how it's a guest network?

One more place to try is https://gpuhash.me/. You'll have to pay up some bitcoin if they do crack it for you, but you'll at least see if they were able to crack it for free, so it's worth a shot
