alfa AWUS036NH is better, because there are many problems with AWUS036NHR ( because it doesn't have a good driver for injection). but for wireless pentesting and concern about 802.11n you can buy AWUS036NHA

If you want max range then you don't want the NHA and the NHR are prone to fail.

I just got the alfa awus036nh from my bro in the US and just pentested about 25 wifi signals in less than 30 minutes, at my hometown all we have is telmex with diferent make and model modems and was able to pentest all of them, way better than the SMC usb wifi dongle with the atheros chip. :eek:mgrunanimation:

this is what i need from my card:

one that has good signal strength, or can see network from afar
    802.11n compatible

one that works with reaver in cracking WPS. i got a netgear usb stick and sometimes it guess different pins, but lately it just guesses the same pin over and over.

Take a look at this one. Works well for me. Based on the RT3070. Ignore the posts saying the omni's are just for show, they are cheap, but work.

Not really a a question of the target network. More a question of purpose. Are you looking to survey a site for coverage/clutter, or for exploiting a network?
For maximum coverage across a distance, a high power adapter with a directional high gain antenna is best. For sniffing, a mid-power card with a med-gain antenna is best.
If you can get the hang of adjusting the radio's settings, you can get a single radio with interchangeable antenna, and you are set. The biggest thing to remember is to make sure it's going to work with your rig, then your software can worry about the remote net you are working with.
