Just thought I'd post this interesting archive I found today...

Already there appears a Mass Production Kit for the 036AC (and possibly other Realtek 11n cards as well to modify eeprom tx power like the RTL8188RU/8188EU)

    Here :

    http://sourceforge.net/projects/alfanetwork/files/DATA/

    File : AWUS036AC MPTools.zip

    * On another note...

I discovered that since I only have USB 2.0 ports on all my machines, buying the 036AC would only operate at a maximum of 480 Mbps and not 867Mbps as claimed due to the lack of USB 3 ports. Sure I could solve this with a PCI or PCIe USB 3 card, but to do that just for 1 adapter is maybe going a bit too far.

Therefore, the 036NHV will be my last purchased ALFA adapter which has incidentally now arrived and been added to my collection. I'm quite satisified with it actually unlike the NHR...

(I already have 051NH for 5Ghz and mimo operation, so I'm not going to really miss the 036AC's 5Ghz or MIMO capability anyway)

And as a result I've removed the 036AC from being on order from my sig because I can't see the point of ordering it anymore only to complete the collection...

I think I have way too many adapters as it is already oops...

    -----------------------

Newest generic driver available (to date) of 04/08/2014....

Realtek 1026.12 30/06/2014 - Also MacOS v 2.2.2 drivers in the same archive.

    UI is 1.00.0244

    http://sgcdn.startech.com/005329/media/sets/Realtek_RTL881xAU_Drivers/Realtek_RTL881xAU.zip

Seems to have packet coalescing now enabled for Windows 8/8.1 enabled in the Advanced tab (NDIS 6.30 feature).

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/hardware/hh451601(v=vs.85).aspx

I'm using these on my NHV atm (running Windows 7 Ult x64), and they work just fine. No problems. Newer than what ALFA has available at the site, or on CD ! and unlike those ones, these are actually SIGNED.

Hope you can help me with this. I have a windows 8.1 laptop. I also have the AWUS036NHR V2.0 (green pcb with Y usb cable). I had alot of problems (Bleu screen crash) with the v2 driver from the Alfa Network website.

Do you know a driver that will work in Windows 8.1 And will give me the full power (2000mw)? IF not I am willing to downgrade to Windows 7. Is there a driver for W7 that works and will give me the full power of 2000mw?

I can confirm that it works fine with my AWUS036AC. Realtek 8812AU is included in the .inf-file.

Regarding USB2/3 support, has anyone of you already checked in what mode the AWUS036AC (which is supposed to support USB 3.0) actually runs?
I have the adapter connected to a USB 3.0 port, but the device always runs in USB 2.0 instead of USB 3.0, even when I am connected to an ac-network. I am using a tool called "USBTreeView" to check my USB-parameters.
In an older Realtek driver version, there was a service to switch USB-modes, but it actually didn't do anything.
For checking your USB-mode, you also need to make sure NOT to use the included USB-stand, since it only uses a USB 2.0 connector.

Well, as you can see in the Windows Title bar window grab above, those are from the 8188RU (NHR v2).

On my 8188EUS (036NHV) I get one more..."DO packet coalescing" on Windows 7 x64. And lose Beutify signal strength as the 8188EUS doesn't need it to show decent signal strength levels.

I always turn that one on. Everything else is left at defaults. Adaptivity is only for ETSI new rules so the device can back off in interference conditions (which is probably useful only if everyone is running it).

That being said, I do seem to get better connectivity with it switched on instead of (auto).

L2H = Stands for Layer 2 Handover is what I managed to figure out so far.

Trouble is with Realtek, they don't document the implements very well, if at all, so it's a case of playing around. More attractive is the fixes, and using later drivers to experiment with than what ALFA offers on their site.

I installed the 1026.13 drivers on windows 7 Pro (x86) and my NHV adapter is not working. I see all the networks that i could see before but when i connect to a network it says that i am connected and that i have internet connection. After opening a browser i try any link but the Tringle for no internet is appearing right down in the internet connection bars . I dont know where the problem is but i had to install the older drivers to work again without any problem.

Well I can confirm they work (1026.13) for my personal 036NHV, but this is using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 at least.

Which is what I tested them on, and they worked fine so I linked them. I can't possibly test them for every OS.

The Win7 x86 version may well be screwed up/not working, but I can't verify that, as I'm only on x64 with said adapter.

Sir.. thank you for the driver link. I am unable to find an answer for a problem with this wonderful device so am trying here..

Win 7 ult x64, AWUS036AC, driver above an older tried..

Q: when attempting to use as an AP, connection is granted. When attempt to use ICS, it simply restarts over and over.. gives me inet axs for 2-3 seconds then restarts.

Booted from a clean system.. removed Firewalls etc and verified my connection is good with other adapter; can browse net etc.

I know the device works as can use it with "connectify" and seems ok..

If able, please advise and or point me..

Can supply a "log" if might help..

    Either way t/y!

    Many thanks, kevsamiga!
With this new driver, my AWUS036AC now constantly uses the USB 3.0 protocol (I verified this using a tool called USBtreeview).
With the older drivers, only USB 2.0 was possible, although I had used the proper port and and not the default USB extender (which is only for USB 2.0).

Since the universal driver covers a multitude of different chipsets in the Realtek 11n range, unfortunately it's not all good news for everyone depending what you run them on.

When I use 1027.3 on my 036NHV on Windows 7 x64, the Realtek GUI listing for reception strengths of signals are slightly down from what they were on the 1026.xx or 1024.xx series. I didn't bother to try out the 036NHR.

Having said that, the driver seems to behave and perform better overall, and once connected to AP the strengths bars received are the same. So something got changed as additionally this driver now detects AP's with a -94 RSSI (using wirelessnetview) so I see no showstopping reason not to be using them for an NHV anyway at least.

I thought my 036NHV was breaking/going deaf on 1027.3 until I compared the anomaly, so something to watch out for if you use them on anything other than 8812au.

My SS dropped from around 58% to the 30's on certain AP's. So no your device isn't broke, it's the driver reporting it that way. It still connects and works just like before.
