    Frustrating I can imagine....

Something else might be at play since 1.74mb is quite a low performing average for an NHA in my exp.

Which OS ? You didn't say. Here's your appropriate NHA driver treasure pot with all the latest drivers :

    Windows - Atheros AR9271 | Xiaopan Forums

There are some diagnostic stuff there too that might help get a handle on what's going on.

If "hopefully" it's not Win8, try using the XP drivers to stop the drops as "explained" in that thread. If it "is" Win8, then the available (beta) drivers are known as flaky.

There are bugs in the Vista/Win7 drivers causing drops requiring an unplug and reset (all versions at random).

TP-LINK WN722N suffers the same disconnection "affliction" and has the same AR9271 chip as NHA. The Windows XP x86 and x64 drivers forced on Win7 cure it.

Define and expand on adapter behaviour on "drops the internet line" ? Does the adapter itself shutdown requiring a re-plug ? Not enough info...

Check the System event log for entries around this time of disconnect.

If it's still dropping, re-locate the antenna/improve LOS. Temporarily disable AV for purposes of testing drops.

If it's still dropping it might be a bad/out of tune antenna like they shipped with my NHR v2, change it out, and re-test.

Run it not through a USB hub but real USB port, and/or try different router and re-test.

If it's still dropping regularly after all this, and the distance to AP is meagre, and you still feel that its performance is still worse than expected compared to other experiences, send it back without question for a replacement/refund and the sooner you do it the better.

Don't waste your time bothering with ALFA tech support froggy English, they're clueless. If they even bother to reply back at all that is...
