If you have an older wireless access point laying around like a Linksys WRT54g (as well as many other models) or a wrt610n etc. you can turn this into a wireless client. In other words you can hook your ethernet card to the router and use it as a wireless antennae receiver etc. Now the upside is that unless you are able to go out and spend a chunk of cash on a wireless antennae and a card that can accommodate it this can be a cost effective way to increase your signal. These wireless routers usually have better antennae (some as many as 3 that can be utilized) and have far more settings and abilities than your normal wireless client card or usb connection. For example I can boost my signal up to 255 (the average output of your wireless card is about 35 and can go up to about 70 on average not that you ever get to change or play with this setting) This of course is something you must read about and understand as there are laws to the amount of power you are allowed to put out and also the unit needs to be modified for cooling as the more power the more heat which can destroy your unit. . When you have a unit up and running you can also now of course add antennae and create a real power house but I digress. If you are interested in the mod first i would go to DD-WRT site and look at the list of routers that are supported. (the list is big and gets bigger all the time) If anyone would like an easier walk through of how to install this and get it running let me know .I know that the DDWRT site can be a bit of a scramble and get overwhelming but it is pretty easy and straight forward. Obviously getting and or building a better antennae is not only a great idea but is also good for the experience and learning about wireless signals and what hinders or helps them. I do suggest anyone who has the patience to do it right get on it. Also try building the different kinds and see how they work for you. Sorrow
