To be honest, I have never seen or heard of such thing. I didn't even know it existed. This is my own idea. No one told me about it...plus, personally, I believe my design is much more effective. Shape does matter! (or would you rather use a squared shape wheel like the cavemen?) The new and improved super dooper JoJo WiFi booster!:D

Try to build a Parabolic Antenna. It will be directional but much more effective. And remember to Google it :google:

What do you think about creating a home made Parabolic Dish Antenna ?

I myself have had some moderate success by placing the alfa adapters 5dbi omni's balanced at the bottom inside an empty cake tin (or those large tins that chocolates come in)

...and tilting the open ended tin on it's side or at 45 degree angle, with the open end pointed in the direction of the AP. :)

Cantenna waveguides, helical antenna's, and dish's are the best the way to go.

It's where all the power is...but as you narrow down the beam width, thing's get harder to "aim" properly.

I'm strongly going off Yagi's for that reason, sometimes they need to be tilted as well as pointed in a lot of cases.

I've not tried WokiFI yet, but seems there is lots of potential there (upside down umbrella's lined with tin foil come to mind)

A lot depends what the other ends antenna is doing.

This will definitely get me through until I can afford a signal repeater strong enough to push my yagi.
    Excellent use of basic skills!

Here is my template for making a parabolic reflector. Just print out the template, transfer to a thin sheet of press board/cardboard and cut out. Glue aluminium foil to the back of the reflector. Scribe the bend lines of the center part with a razor blade to make it easier to bend. Punch the holes in the center part to slide the antenna over.

Assemble by inserting tabs into slots in the reflector and taping to hold in place.

Would you be able to upload screenshots of results from your design to share for all to see? Looks good though..

Sure - here is one made from an old food box. I enlarged this one by scaling up the template when printing. DSCF7945.JPG DSCF7946.JPG DSCF7947.JPG

oh man...i apologize for not specifying. I meant to say screenshots of the actual reception strength..like a with desing and without design, how many AP's can it detect and how strong the signal is. Also, (just an idea) why not try with foil on the inside. Gave me better results on my design.

I'll try to get some screen shots.

If you put the aluminum foil on the inside, it wrinkles when you bend the reflector which screws up the parabolic focus.

Putting it on the back stretches the aluminum and keeps it smooth. The cardboard is invisible to wi-fi so the only difference is a minor change in the focus point due to the thickness of the cardboard.

The first capture is no reflector. The next two are the parabolic reflector aimed in different directions.
Note Infinitumbj94 improves from -77 to -71 between the first the second and Infinitumwsv9 improves from -79 to -69 between the first and third.
