Recently thanks to the advice of a forum member I purchased a Bolo Brands N Wireless 18dbi 2.4GHz Wifi High Gain Antenna 18 dB 2.4 GHz Wifi Antenna Booster with Mount Kit. With the new antenna I attached it to my Alfa wireless awus036h adapter. Unfortunately I did not see any gain in my reception. The signals are all identical as if I were using my Alfa wireless adapter with the 7dbi flat panel antenna. I later read a comment that said I needed to remove the black plastic caps. Unfortunately the signal did not change at all. Is the antenna I purchased defective? Or is there a specific way of setting up my antenna. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can instruct me on how to use it/set it up.
Was thinking the same thing @Crackerz Wave and when I scrolled down I see you have commented Also in the wrong section, moving...
I will post some pictures as soon as I get back. This is the gist of how I set up my antenna. It is on the second floor of my house, with the antenna facing towards the window. I basically have it either "hooked" onto my window blind; vertically and parallel to the window, or I'll lay it flat pointing towards the window. Before that I walked around the house both upstairs and downstairs hooked to the Alfa adapter which in turn was plugged into my laptop. I used "Inssider 3" to evaluate the signals, and there was no noticeable gain at all with the antenna I just bought. The differences in signal quality is negligible from the 7dbi panel from Alfa that I was using with my adapter prior to this Yagi antenna.
There's no special way to set up a yagi antenna, you can test the cable with a multimeter , dc resistance should zero out if the cables fine, also make sure the cable isn't completing the circuit where soldered to the antenna. Check the quality of cable decent cable is marked on the outer sleeve. Pictures or links are always hand saves us searching what type of yagi it is yours is a uda
