in my experience using alfa 036nhr with 7dbi + 9dbi antenna also with magnetbase...both the perfomance 7dbi and 9dbi+magnetbase not so difference...but it perform better compare to stock 5dbi+magnetbase antenna...
Yup,i heard many problem complained about AWUS036NHR model, that's why i'm not buying it even it's a new model...so i choose the old model AWUS036H...hope it will impress me with that extra antenna i got, also my 999Wn already got the wifi N mode...so i think with the old model AWUS036H, i feel not missing something because my 999Wn already got it the N mode.

dear friends i have bought original alfa awus036h from authorised dealer but after some days it got a problem that it can't connect when i go to another room from ap's room . i think it can not connect below a specific signal but my signal strength is 80-90% . i don't know what to do ...i have emailed to alfa network but they did not solve my problem.... SO i advise you all to not waste your money on the alfa product ..it is wholly :censored product !!!!!!!!!!!!! try another products like tp-link they have very little chance of default. goood luck for wifi hacking freinds//////////!!!!
