I'm looking to run this NETGEARXX Wordlist by Gearjunkie 1.08 but I'm new to all of this and need some help. I was talking to carnivore1 which was very helpful, but now I cant post in that thread because it says "awaiting mod approval" Anyways, he suggested I run this code Code: Select All -a 6 -m 2500 -w 4 file.hccapx adjective_noun_3d.txt ?d?d?d is the correct set of commands for wordlist + mask....-w 4 is highest level of optimization , it usually uses 100% of gpu ability...believe -w 3 uses about 90%....here is the info on using -w 4 command from hashcat ..- 4 | Nightmare | 480 ms | Insane | Headless. -- carnivore1 But then my response that never got approved was this: I'm using a laptop that is around 8 years old. some internals have been upgraded, but the GPU is still the same. So it sounds like my GPU won't be that good for this task right? In my case, should I use -w 3? Something that focuses more of CPU? Because the CPU has been upgraded its decent. Also, im still a noob to all of this. What do you mean by? - 4 | Nightmare | 480 ms | Insane | Headless. Running command: -a 6 -m 2500 -w 4 file.hccapx adjective_noun_3d.txt ?d?d?d Will this result in the full password captured? jollyfish054 for example. Or does it just get the the adj + noun and i have to crack the 3 numbers a different way?
Using a older laptop is not optimal way to run Hashcat, if your gpu in laptop is workable, make sure you have correct driver installed ( whether it is windows or linux) You can also run hashcat with cpu...it will work, that route might be faster if that hardware is newer. You might have to test both methods to see which way is faster. The -w 3 or -w 4 command might not work to speed up cracking process or maybe not even be necessary if hashcat says not supported or throws off error messages. The -w 4 | Nightmare | 480 ms | Insane | Headless just merely refers to the fact that particular command puts a crazy high amount of stress on system. like in crazy nightmare stress...I still use it!!... -a 6 -m 2500 -w 4 file.hccapx adjective_noun_3d.txt ?d?d?d is correct command sequence for dictionary + mask attack...you can use it without -w commands..(just leaves out optimizing gpu). Yes, using that command will result in capturing entire password (words and numbers...?d?d?d automatically adds numbers to end for you) .Just keep tinkering with hashcat and you will get it ...cheers carnivore1....
Hey Carnivore - thanks for the grea tinfo - im re running my attack based on those parameters on my NETGEAR13EXT .cap, I just converted to hccapx, I may repost if I still hit a brick wall... Ive posted 3 hs from wifite on page 27 of the netgearxx wordlist thread.. I just realized I didn't convert to hccapx, wondering if that's why ive gotten no responses but hey Im still learning but im starting to wrap my mind around it. Its real important to crack these, Ive a neighbor from hell... nuff said. --- Double Post Merged, 21 Mar 2019, Original Post Date: 21 Mar 2019 --- When running the above wordlist-mask attack, it states 202/8192 MB allocated.. Does that mean its only allocating 2092 of my VRAM for the attack? Its a GTX 1080.
Okay, here is the technical answer about memory usage in Hashcat when you are using nvidia gpus......no mistake in low memory allocated That is because the OpenCL runtime does not have access to the full available GPU memory. There are some special limitations. Also with the latest driver version it seems the runtime only sees the remaining allocateable memory only. This creates even more confusion to the user. However it's nothing that hashcat has any influence in. For NVIDIA specifically, a hard limit of 25% of GPU memory being made available to a single OpenCL allocation has been observed in the wild. As of 2017-07, there is an open RFE with NVIDIA on this issue.;;;SO, JUST KNOW HASHCAT SHOULD ONLY SHOW ONE QUARTER OF MEMORY BEING USED......Posting the .cap file should be enough . if anyone wants to help, but any additional info like converted .hccapx or type of router is extra helpful.....do not expect too much help around here anymore, try hashkiller.co. uk for more advice or to ask questions...With a gtx 1080, you should run through the netgear wordlist in 6 or 7 hours if using -w 4 option ( optimized)...cheers carnivore1
Thank you my friend for shedding some light on that. You're spot on on the time - around 7 hrs. BTW Is the correct command for output of a cracked pass -o cracked ( cracked.txt being my file in hashcat folder ), and am I correct that is placed at the end of the command?. Ive been stressing when when the DOS screen disappears after approaching final keyspace, thinking *$@% what if it showed and I didn't see it lol.
yes , you are correct with the -o output command and the placement location of it. .. Ha, you will not miss any results in hashcat. If you do not use a output file in your folder, always can find all previously cracked .hccapx files in the potfile in hashcat folder. Sometimes though, have had handhakes with multiple digests that crack several times during your run through..thats kind of a head scratcher...carnivore1
OK cool I checked it, there is a long list In there... how do I know what belongs to what? Are they listed chronologically? Is the hash on the left side? Its kind of confusing sorry mate for the dumb questions- thnx in advance
or hit the up arrow and run the attack again with --show at the end, and it will show you the password. eg: hashcat -m 2500 -w 4 --status blahblah.hccapx -a 6 netgear.txt ?d?d?d --show
